THE 13 best HOSTELS IN AMSTERDAM

Last Updated: 03/09/22 | March 9th, 2022

Amsterdam will always have a special place in my heart. I spent a month there on my first trip around the world in 2006. I made friends, wandered far and wide, and really got to know the city, its neighborhoods, and its people.

In fact, I fell in love with Amsterdam that trip, and I’ve been back to visit Amsterdam each year since.

It’s one of the most went to and backpacked cities in Europe, with so much to see and do.

The city’s popularity implies filled with hundreds of hostels, hotels, and guesthouses.

With so numerous places showing up in your search results, how do you know which are the best hostels in Amsterdam? I mean, dozens are “top rated” on Hostelworld, right?

I’ve been going to Amsterdam for a decade and have stayed in dozens upon dozens of places over the years. There are a lot of things to consider when selecting a hostel. The top four when picking the best hostel in Amsterdam are:

Location – Amsterdam can take some time to get around. pick a place that is central to the sites and nightlife you want to see. All the hostels noted here are in central locations.

Price – In Amsterdam, you really get what you pay for, so if you choose a really cheap one, you’re probably going to get a hostel that is small, cramped, and doesn’t offer great service.

Amenities – Every hostel in the city provides totally free Wi-Fi, and many have a totally free breakfast, but if you want much more than that, be sure to do your research to find the hostel that best meets your needs!

Staff – All the hostels noted here have amazing staff! They are very friendly and knowledgeable. even if you don’t end up staying at one of the places noted below, be sure to look up reviews to guarantee you end up somewhere where the staff is helpful and friendly! They can make or break a hostel!

To help you plan your trip, here is my list of the hostels in Amsterdam that I like the most. If you don’t want to read the longer list below, the following hostels are the best in each category:

Ilocos weekend Trip: Summary, itinerary as well as budget plan

When the bad Traveler was planning this trip to Ilocos, I did not have much expectations. sure I had heard about Ilocandia as well as all the raves about it before on TV however in all honesty, it did not truly charm to me. I just wished to see the Bangui Windmills, Pagudpud as well as Vigan. That was all I wanted.

But I got more than I bargained for.

The Ilocos region is house to the most amazing tourist destinations in the country. I was pleasantly surprised that even as much as now, this trip to Ilocos stays on my short listing of my finest domestic travels. Ilocos is pure love.

One of my buddies was right. Each location has its element. Each location offers an intimate connection with nature. He believes, for obvious reasons, that wind is the aspect of this wonderful region. He’s right. Yes, the Bangui Windmills is a proof however really, when you’re in Ilocos, you’ll feel like it is a “wind realm,” not just since of its existence as well as power however likewise there’s this constant feeling of being embraced by the wind. I don’t know, the wind there seemed to welcome as well as entertain us.

For example, during go to to Cape Bojeador Lighthouse — my preferred part of the tour — I was standing on the top of the tower, looking over this incredible terrain as well as it made me recognize just exactly how wind modifications landscapes as well as shapes cultures. That’s just me.

Day Zero

Our trip began with a satisfy up at the Trinoma car parking great deal at around 9pm. We were a group of 7 as well as a tour guide-slash-driver was with us. We were able to leave the location 30 minutes later. We had a number of stopovers starting at a gas station along NLEX. reality is, I really don’t keep in mind much about our moments inside the van since I was sleeping most of the time. However, every time we stop (which occurred 5 times so a few of us might buy food, pee, buy food, as well as pee) I would get up however would go back to dreamland after 2 seconds.

Day 1

The next time I woke up we were on the car parking great deal of Bantay Church. Here’s our itinerary for Day 1:

Bantay Church as well as Belfry in Ilocos

Breakfast at cafe Uno in Vigan

A Wild encounter at ‘Baluarte’

Some History, Some politics inside Crisologo museum

Old institution Pottery at the ‘Pagburnayan’

The magnificent Paoay Church

Overnight at Java hotel in Laoag

We spent the night 1 at Java hotel in Laoag City. We really shown up at the hotel around 4:30pm however we were sooo tired that all of us went to sleep right after inspecting in. We woke up at around 8pm for dinner as well as went back to bed.

Day 2

Our Day started earlier than 6am. With renewed energy, we were more than excited to hit the road once again particularly that we already had an concept on what was in store for us that day.

The Breathtaking Cape Bojeador Lighthouse

Blown Away by Bangui Windmills

Swept Away in Blue Lagoon, Pagudpud

Kabigan Falls in Pagudpud

It was already dark when we got out of the woods. It was a bit frightening however there were many of us so it was not truly a problem. We inspected in at Polaris beach home that night. It wasn’t truly a high-end lodging however we were just there to sleep anyway so we didn’t complain. After all, the tour was so inexpensive we really believed we got what our money was worth. We had buffet dinner as well as hit the sack at around 9pm.

Day 3

La Funeraria Baquiran
Vigan was the only product on our itinerary for that day. We explored the city especially Calle Crisologo, had lunch at cafe Leona, bought a tonne of pasalubong as well as hit the road back to Manila at noon.

Gone to Vigan

We shown up at around 8pm in Manila.

EXPENSES

Here’s the rough quote of our expenses:

P3300 — 3-day, 2-night tour inclusive of transportation, lodging as well as entrance fees.

P1500 — overall food costs including incidentals (drinks, snacks)

TOTAL: P4800

Note that this does not include pasalubong yet. I spent around P1200 on pasalubong, mainly longganisa. Hehe. That makes the overall P6000. That’s it. I hope this helps!

Overall, I like Ilocos. I believe it’s one of the very best as well as most gorgeous locations I have visited EVER. Ilocos is just extremely simple to autumn in like with.

It was Day 4 of our Singapore-Malaysia cruise. Our cruise ship, the Superstar Virgo, docked in Singapore that morning. Tastes of Asia

Our very first stop was a restaurant called tastes of Asia. Perfect, I thought. I was truly starving that time as well as I my stomach was making strange seems already. We shared the table with the hospitable women running the island. They were extremely accommodating as well as I liked exactly how curious as well as excited they were about the blogging as well as social network culture in the Philippines.

A few minutes later as well as samosas, appetizers, were served. The primary program was a option between spaghetti, Hainanese chicken, as well as laksa. I purchased Hainanese poultry since I was truly hungry as well as there was a hole in my tummy that only rice might fill that time. I liked exactly how tender the poultry was. So far, I had not tasted any type of Hainanese poultry in Singapore that did not deliver.

Laksa.
My blogging partner was kind sufficient to provide me some laksa since the serving was quite huge. IT WAS PHENOMENAL. I loved, loved, liked it. I started kicking myself in the rear from that moment. I ought to have purchased laksa.

GoGreen Segway Eco Adventure

After lunch, we headed directly to Segway Eco Adventure, which provides a trip on one of their personal mobile transporters. visitors may utilize these transporters to check out Palawan as well as Siloso beaches. however because we were all beginners, we stayed within the confines of what appeared like a training ground. In fact, there was a short tutorial before we were enabled to utilize them on our own.

Finally trying the mobile transporters!
While I was using my helmet, I was reminded of exactly how terrified I was when I was still discovering to trip a bike, exactly how embarrassing it was to autumn as well as hit the ground, exactly how aggravating it was to autumn once again as well as again, as well as exactly how satisfying it was to lastly discover exactly how to manage it. thankfully for me, whatever went smoothly.

After a short affair with Segway, it was time to autumn in like with the beautiful shoreline of Singapore from afar. We boarded the Skyride as well as it was truly unforgettable. I felt like an thrilled young child as we were taken to the top of the hill while drowning in the amazing view.

It was like viewing your playmates. funny exactly how other visitors on the ground would wave at us as well as we would wave back at them.

Sentosa 4D Magix as well as Sentosa Cine Blast

I like viewing in 3D theaters (or 4D, for that matter). I delighted in Mickey’s Philharmonic at Disneyland Hong Kong as well as the Shrek 4D experience at universal Studios Singapore, so I was truly expecting to be entertained at the Sentosa 4D Magix although there was quite a queue. One thing that made it a refreshing experience for me was that the film was notan animation however online action. It was a fun experience.

Standing 110-meters tall, the Tiger sky Tower is the tallest observation tower in Singapore. The trip takes you 131 meters above sea level, providing you a amazing panoramic views of Sentosa as well as Singapore. If you’re lucky as well as the sky is as remove as glass, you ought to likewise be able to see some islands of Malaysia as well as Indonesia.

These are just a few of the attractions in Sentosa. There are a great deal more. I was especially eyeing iFly: indoor Skydiving however we ran short of time.

8 tourist Attractions from Champs-Élysées to The Louvre: A Paris walking tour

With a paper plate of chocolate-banana chocolat banane waffle in one hand, I surveyed the park for a vacant seat and found one punctuating a grove of manicured trees. Sweet, I whispered as I pulled a chair and settled. The scene was just as cliché as I imagined, but, heck, I was loving it. I was enjoying waffles in one corner of the Tuileries garden and listening to Lana del Rey while keeping my eyes on that pointy metal structure that poked the Parisian sky — the Eiffel Tower.

View of the Eiffel Tower from one edge of the Tuileries Garden
But the world-famous landmark would have to wait at that point. It was my first day in Paris, and the tower was not yet part of the plan. That afternoon was reserved for Champs-Élysées, ending here at the Tuileries Garden. just in front of me was place de la Concorde, Paris’s largest public square. The place is serene now. Over 200 years ago, however, it was the site of one of the most important events in French history. This was where King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette were executed by guillotine. Today, the only commotion that occurs here is that of tourists finding a good spot for a quick rest after hours of sightseeing.

My walk began at the other end of Champs-Élysées, a 1.9-km long boulevard that connects place de la Concorde and place Charles de Gaulle. A stroll along the famed avenue introduces many of the city’s most popular tourist spots. here are some of them.

WHAT’S covered IN THIS GUIDE?

1. Arc de Triomphe
2. Champs-Élysées
3. fashion Stores
4. Grand Palais
5. Jardins des Champs-Élysées
6. place de la Concorde
7. Tuileries Garden
8. The Louvre

More tips on YouTube ⬇️⬇️⬇️Related Posts:

1. Arc de Triomphe

Arc de Triomphe has its own metro station called Charles-de-Gaulle-Étoile, making it an optimal start of a walking tour. Smack at the center of place Charles de Gaulle in the 8th arrondissement, it enables a terrific view of Champs-Élysées.

Looks small but…
Voila. It’s a pretty colossal structure.
The Arc is one of the most iconic monuments in Paris. Erected between 1806 and 1836, it was commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte after the victory at Austerlitz and was designed by Jean Chalgrin in honor of those who fought at the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. names of generals and all French victories are inscribed on the structure.

I had a foolish impression before coming here that the arc was small (I don’t know why) and was, thus, surprised to be greeted by a Neoclassical mammoth. It measures 50 meters in height, 45 meters in length, and 22 meters in width.

2. Champs-Élysées

The boulevard itself is worth a look. Each year, it plays host to many Bastille Day (July 14) events including a military parade. On regular days, it boasts rectangular groves that fringe a maze of retail shops, theaters, and restaurants.

Champs Elysees is one busy road.
Pavement restaurants amid tree groves
Champs Elysees is flanked by fashion shops and boutiques.
So tempted to just run around and disturb their peace, haha
There was a time when Champs-Élysées was just a flat shade of green on the map: fields and gardens. The initial plan, made by André Le Nôtre in 1667, pegged the site to be just an extension of the nearby Tuileries Garden. Over centuries, it has evolved into one of the most famous and most fashionable streets in the world.

3. fashion Stores

The area has become synonymous with shopping. shopping has been ingrained in its history, starting in 1860 when the merchants along the boulevard established an association. now called Comité Champs-Élysées, “it is the oldest standing committee in Paris,” according to my good pal Wikipedia.

Flagship store of Louis Vuitton
Popular brands and luxury labels are all here, including the flagship store of Louis Vuitton, which stands proudly on the southern side of the road.

4. Grand Palais

Another important historic site along Champs-Élysées is the Grand Palais, a “monument dedicated by the Republic to the glory of French art.” The grand, imposing structure edifice houses an exhibition hall and a museum complex. The Beaux-Arts beauty also serves as the venue for many of Chanel’s fashion shows.

As viewed from Champs Elysees
Built in 1897, the palace wears a blend of classical and Art Nouveau designs, most evident in its stone facade and ironwork, as well as in its grand staircase. the most appealing are its glass barrel-vaulted roofs, framed by light steel, allowing natural light in.

Just across the Grand Palais is the Petit Palais.

5. Jardins des Champs-Élysées

At this point, you’ll probably be exhausted from all the hours of walking. fret not! beyond the groves of trees that line the avenue are pockets of greens, perfect for a brief rest. Some statues and fountains adorn the gardens. but you might want to spend a few euros on a serving of crepe from the unassuming stalls that hide under the foliage.

Jealousy.

6. place de la Concorde

The largest public square in Paris, the place de la Concorde spans 8.64 hectares at the eastern end of Champs-Élysées. Its most prominent feature: the Obelisk of Luxor, a giant needle-shape Egyptian monument at the very center of the site. The obelisk is flanked by the Fontaines de la Concorde, designed by Jacques Ignace Hittorff. but the place itself was laid out Ange-Jacques Gabriel in 1755 in honor of King Louis XV.

The Obelisk of Luxor
At the height of the French Revolution, the square was bestowed with a new name: aptly, “Place de la Révolution.” It was here that the guillotine would end the reign (and life) of King Louis XVI on 21 January 1793.

7. Tuileries Garden

Just east of place de la Concorde lies the Jardin des Tuileries, once the garden of a royal palace which was opened to the public after the French Revolution. construction of the Italian Renaissance garden was ordered by Queen Catherine de Medicis in 1564, after the death of her husband, King Henry II. She enlisted the help of Bernard de Carnesse, an architect from Florence. It has seen a number of redesigns over the centuries as ownership of the site was passed on from one ruler to another.

Today, the Tuileries garden is a famous tourist spot and public park. Its centerpiece is an octagonal basin, a realization of landscape architect André Le Nôtre’s vision.

8. The Louvre

Walk straight across the garden and you’ll find yourself admiring the Louvre, the world’s most visited art museum, attracting over 9.7 million visitors a year, and also one of the world’s largest, covering an area of over 60,000 square meters. The museum shelters and showcases around 35,000 pieces, the most famous of which is probably the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci.

The Louvre is open from Wednesday to Monday, 9am-6pm (closed on Tuesdays), but try to check out on a Wednesday or Friday, when the operating hours are extended until 9:45pm, giving you more time to explore more rooms and see more pieces.

I will be writing about my time inside the Louvre in a separate post. stay tuned! 🙂

Bacolod and Negros Occidental: budget travel guide

A much more updated version of this short article can be found here:
Bacolod travel Guide

Negros Occidental is one of the most significant provinces in the Philippines in terms of land area and population. Yet, a big part of its territory remain unknown to numerous non-residents. but at the rate that the country’s tourism is growing, it looks like it is only a matter of time before numerous of its best kept secrets will be discovered and rediscovered by the travel-crazy public.

Bacolod City is many well-known for three things — sweets, chicken inasal, and Masskara Festival. but there’s much more to the city and the rest of the Negros Occidental province than its food and festivities. Its coasts are strewn with white sand, its streets flanked with historic buildings, and its islands blessed with rich natural resources. Not to mention that its people are some of the friendliest I have had the honor to meet, making a trip to this jewel of the Visayas an unforgettable experience each time.

How to get to Negros Occidental

Flying is the easiest and fastest way to reach Negros Occidental. The Bacolod-Silay airport is the gateway to the province, opening the door to curious guests who are ready to go back in time, indulge in sugary treats, and wander in the arms of nature. here are some airlines that fly to Bacolod and the cities they fly from:

Cebu Pacific – Manila, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro

PAL/PAL express – Manila, Cebu

Seair/Tiger Philippines – Manila

Just to be clear, the airport is not in Bacolod City but in Silay City. Hence, I highly encourage you to check out the attractions in Silay on your last day (so you won’t be stressed out and too concerned about being late for the flight).

Where to stay in Negros Occidental

I have only been to Negros Occidental once so all I can share for now are those that I have tried during that trip. I’ll be updating this list as soon as I pay the province another visit. In the imply time, here are the inns and resorts that I have some things to say about.

The Circle Inn Bacolod

Baldevia Pension House, Silay City

Punta Bulata, Cauayan

Danjugan Island, Cauayan

Circle Inn, Bacolod.  A budget hotel at the corner of Lopez Jaena and Malaspina Streets, near Robinsons Bacolod. The rooms are okay, clean, and big enough. friendly staff. outstanding service. Double rooms from P1090 per night. 63-917-445-9972

Baldevia Pension House, Silay City. set in an old building, it has hospital-ish atmosphere. (That’s sort of a bad thing.) The rooms are comfortable and clean but there’s plenty of room for improvement. The staff is very valuable and friendly, though. +63 34 495 5140

Punta Bulata, Cauayan. tucked in a remote corner in Cauayan, five hours south of Bacolod, this resort can give you the peace and quiet you need. It’s pretty hard to reach but the service is wonderful and the beach is gorgeous. double rooms from P2000. +63 34 433 5160

Danjugan Island, Cauayan. one of the best island trips I have had in my life ever. Danjugan Island is a true paradise off the coast of Cauayan. It is blessed with spectacular natural beauty! A snorkeling and diving paradise. catch is, the whole island uses solar energy so electrical power is very limited. basic accommodations only. +63 34 4416010

HOW TO represent travel ON YOUR RÉSUMÉ

Last Updated: 3/6/2021 | March 6th, 2021

What do you do when you come back home? exactly how do you discuss the space in your employment to the hiring person in front of you? exactly how do you make travel seem like a win? Those are all valid concerns people who take a profession break have so I invited profession break professional Sherry Ott to tell us when (and when not) to utilize travel to increase our resume.

You’ve just completed your life-changing travels as well as now you’re back house as well as thinking about exactly how you are going to discover work again. Whether you’re travels were a profession break, space year, or sabbatical, you will requirement to figure out exactly how you account for the time as well as experiences on your résumé.

Normally you requirement to account in some method for the time spent away from work. If employers see a space in your resume that isn’t explained, you may not make it with the very first cut of résumés.

I frequently work with travelers who are re-entering the workforce as well as are dealt with with the complying with concerns when trying to update their résumé.

Travel: Where ought to it go on my résumé?

It depends. Do you believe the experiences you had traveling apply to you discovering a new task in your field? If so, then location it in the primary part of your résumé. If you don’t feel like it applies, then it most likely belongs in a section reserved for “Additional Information” or “Hobbies.”

Kristin Zibell of Take Your huge trip is a regular profession breaker as well as she keeps her résumé flexible, saying, “I discovered the recruiters as well as hiring managers were searching for the expert story in my résumé. Every statement on my résumé needed to support this story as well as show the situation, action, as well as results. If my travels as well as experiences had a direct connection to the position, like my blogging or volunteering abroad, then I noted it like a position: ‘Travel Blogger’ or ‘English Teacher.’ many of the time, I discovered that travel was an fascinating truth about me as well as explained the time gaps, however not directly associated to the positions. In this case, I put my travel experiences at the bottom in an ‘Additional Activities’ section that colored who I was as well as what I had done.”

Kristin’s résumé highlights her travels as worldwide experience:

Ten months of travel to India, Nepal, Southeast Asia, the middle East, as well as Europe, from October 2008 to may 2010.

Activities included volunteer work at mom Teresa objective Charities in Kolkata with disabled women as well as mentor English to street kids in Jaipur.

Designed as well as authored three travel blogs during these multi-month solo trips. currently editor of Takeyourbigtrip.com.

What type of info ought to I share?

It’s most likely not a great concept to put that you were a beach bum for 12 months, or that you traveled the full Moon celebration circuit. Instead, believe about what you did on your travels that had to finish with education, skill building, volunteering, as well as business, as well as highlight them in a expert manner. however there are some other skills you may want to consider:

1. Volunteering
One ought to always represent any type of volunteering done while traveling on a résumé. For me it demonstrated my commitment to education, providing back to other cultures, as well as worldwide experience. You ought to always include where your volunteering took place, what your obligations were, as well as if there was any type of end result. The end results might be concrete things such as building a house, cleaning up after a natural disaster, or restoring wetlands. Example:

Extensive worldwide travel background, comfortable working with as well as in different cultures.

Volunteered with Cross-Cultural services in new Delhi, India, mentor computers, conversational English, as well as interview skills in purchase to help young adults entering the workforce.

If not covered somewhere else in your résumé, likewise think about including any type of résumé-building, intangible results, such as improved leadership skills, proven capability to take initiative, and listening as well as communication skills. Finally, if your volunteering was for an prolonged period of time, such as six months to a year, then think about putting this experience in your work or education history.

2. Working
I have discovered that much more as well as much more people are working while they travel; for example, I worked during my year in Vietnam. work that is appropriate to your field is essential to highlight. Did you do any type of freelance work, consulting, work at a hostel, or ESL instruction? If so, this can go into your work history.

I highlighted my different work experiences as worldwide work experience:

ESL Instructor: ILA Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City

Teaching adults English as a second Language (ESL)Consultant: CAMENAE, Singapore

Delivered a usability analysis of the e-commerce site as well as led subsequent redesign

Conducted tests as well as produced a regression test plan

Consulted with owners on their company vision as well as guaranteed that it can be supported on the site. provided assistance on short- as well as long-lasting company plans as well as their technical implementation.

3. Blogging
Did you blog, compose for publications, or do photography? All of these things show that you took your travels seriously. believe about the new skills you discovered when preserving your blog. Did you boost your understanding about browse engine optimization, marketing or sales of affiliate programs, coding, or social media tools?

Laura Keller did a profession break with her hubby Ryan as well as blogged about it at round We Go . She represented her blogging in the complying with way:

Digital Entrepreneur, travel blog writer & world Explorer

Expanded economic as well as cultural views while checking out 20 countries in 14 months of comprehensive travel across six continents

Created, launched, as well as held the travel site RoundWedGo.com, drawing in 10,000 distinct monthly visitors

Governed on the internet traffic, social media, as well as SEO to produce marketing as well as sponsorship income for RoundWeGo.com

Contributed travel articles to leading way of life as well as travel sites as well as blogs

Be sure to talk about the soft skills

Even if all you did was lounge around a beach all the time as well as drink beer, you chosen up some company skills while traveling around the world. It’s difficult to believe about mundane daily experiences as skill building, however they are. There are a great deal of company skills you can discover without really having gone to company school. In fact, these “business skills” are just essential life skills that can provide you an edge:

Negotiation skills – All that time spent in markets haggling over the expense of a magnet was beneficial. You were subjected to as well as employed different settlement tactics that can be highlighted. companies want people who are sharp negotiators as well as can make deals, not people who are pushovers.

Budgeting as well as planning – You many likely had to plan as well as save for your profession break. In addition, you continued to screen your budget plan as well as evaluated any type of monetary risks.

Adaptability – When you travel, things go wrong, plans change, there are mudslides that you can’t predict. As a traveler, you are required to modification plans constantly. You deal with the problems that hurdle your method rapidly after a few months on the road. In the ever-changing world of business, the capability to adapt is important.

Communication skills – When trying to converse in foreign cultures, verbal as well as nonverbal communication is required to conquer language as well as cultural barriers. This skill is assists you offer with people, which is an essential element of any type of job. workers with great communication skills are the ones who increase fast.

All of these new skills belong on your résumé. as well as when you are asked about them in an interview, you’ll be able to share an outstanding story about “that time in Vietnam…” when a skill came in useful as well as exactly how it can assist you in your job. As Kristin Zibell says, “In an interview, I utilized travel stories to show soft skills, like handling adversity or ambiguity. I shared my travel experience as a part of my expert story. This method made me a much more unforgettable as well as fascinating candidate.”

Use your travel to make you stand out. keep in mind that numerous of these experiences, if explained in a expert manner, will make you stand apart from other candidates.

Don’t hide your travel when searching for a job — embrace it!

Sherry Ott is a long term traveler, blogger, as well as professional photographer at Ottsworld. She’s likewise a co-founder of Meet, Plan, Go!, a site as well as national travel event mentor you exactly how you can take your extremely own traveling profession break or sabbatical.

Tips For planning a trip to Eastern Europe

We revealed our travel plans on our YouTube channel a couple of weeks ago, as well as because then, our days as well as thoughts have been consumed with planning this legendary trip.

As with getting ready for a journey anywhere in the world, there are numerous things to believe about, as well as plan for, when embarking on a European adventure!

The Route

Deciding which countries you want to go to is the very first step, particularly if you want to make utilize of your train pass (more on that below). try to plan your trip in a circle, to prevent backtracking as well as wasting your valuable travel time.

This is our route:

Turkey ⇒ Bulgaria ⇒ Macedonia ⇒ Albania ⇒ Turkey (for an event) ⇒ Croatia ⇒ Montenegro ⇒ Bosnia & Herzegovina ⇒ Serbia ⇒ Slovenia ⇒ Italy ⇒ Hungary ⇒ Slovakia ⇒ Czech Republic ⇒ Austria ⇒ Poland ⇒ Ukraine ⇒ Romania ⇒ Turkey

17 countries in 22 weeks.

This is the fastest we’ve travelled in a extremely long time.

But, there is an explanation for this. We’re not planning to see the entire country of each destination, however rather, we’ll select 2 – 3 locations to go to for around 5 days each.

When selecting your route, think about the following:

Weather:

We’re starting our trip in January, which is certainly not an perfect time to be in the northern hemisphere (unless you’re into skiing). This is why we chose to head to the Mediterranean / Balkan countries first. We wished to be as far south in the region as we could.

Unless you’re a huge fan of the freezing cold, you most likely won’t want to go to the Baltic countries in January, as well as similarly, you many likely will want to prevent the searing 40 degree summertime warm of Bulgaria.

Season:

I don’t imply the weather condition with this one. If you want to prevent the crowds in this part of the world, make sure to travel in the off-season or the take on season.

During Easter, Christmas as well as summertime holidays, numerous of these countries will be packed with tourists, both regional as well as foreign. early spring, autumn as well as winter season are great options (except for Christmas time). having stated that, if you want to experience the festivities of these holidays you should, however expect that there will be crowds.

Festivals:

You’ll requirement to choose if you want to see the celebrations on offer, or if you want to prevent them. Easter will be incredibly hectic in Italy, however the events will be incredible. The spring celebration in Hungary, the Beer celebration in Czech Republic as well as the different Christmas markets may be events that you don’t want to miss.

Check the dates as well as plan accordingly.

Transport:

Trains, buses, rental cars, hitchhiking, bicycles and flying, there are various methods to get around. When you’re planning out your route, make sure to inspect out the train lines – some countries are much better linked than others, which will potentially impact the path in which you travel.

Transportation

Once you’ve figured out your route, you’ll want to purchase your train pass, book a rental car, or purchase a flight…or all three.

Train:

For non-Europeans, Eurail is the business you’ll want to book your train pass with. For Europeans, Interrail is what you’re after.

With Eurail, you can purchase a worldwide Pass which enables you to go to 28 countries within a specific time period. We have this pass, which enables us to travel between 28 countries, for 15 days. The pass ends after 2 months.

Another choice is the One country Pass which enables you travel within one country of your choice. For example, you can select Italy as well as choose 3, 4, 5 or 8 travel days within a one month period.

Keep in mind that travelling by train in the Balkans (Bulgaria, Macedonia, Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia, Serbia as well as Romania) isn’t the very best plan, as the trains are rather old, there aren’t numerous routes as well as they can be unreliable.

Travelling by bus is the very best choice in this area of Europe, inspect out this site for comprehensive time tables.

Rental Car:

Having your own wheels is a fantastic method to see this part of the world, as well as usually there are little villages, ruins or other gems that you’ll want to visit, however the trains or buses won’t run there.

If you have your own car, you’ll be able to have experiences that other tourists may otherwise not.

The Balkans are a fantasticlocation to lease a vehicle as the trains right here aren’t as reliable, or modern. The buses do run, however they are frequently extremely long journeys.

We have vehicles rented in Albania as well as Macedonia with EconomyBookings.com as well as are looking ahead to checking out these two countries independent of the public transfer systems.

If you do choose to lease a car, make sure you discover out whether or not an worldwide Driver’s Licence is required. We don’t requirement one for Macedonia, however we do for Albania.

Airplane:

In purchase to save time, or if you discover yourself in Italy as well as requirement to get back to Turkey (for example), think about taking a look at the budget plan airlines in the region.

If flights from one city seem expensive, inspect the neighbouring city / country, as well as so on. Pegasus provides budget-friendly flights in Europe, as does Ryan Air and simple Jet (although they tend to fly from Eastern Europe to Western, instead of within the east). one more choice is Hungary’s low expense carrier, Wizz Air.

These airlines are cheap, as well as offer no frills. keep in mind that frequently you’ll have to pay for luggage with these companies, as well as in some cases you won’t get a designated seat number, you just sit where there is an empty seat!

Insurance

Having the appropriate insurance coverage when travelling is a must, particularly if you plan to do adventurous activities.

We suggest world Nomads Insurance, as they cover numerous activities that other business do not. If your possessions are stolen, they will cover that also (always inspect your policy to make sure you understand what is covered, as well as what is not).

Another benefit of going with world Nomads is that you can prolong or modification your policy while you are on the road. With numerous other companies, you should kind out your insurance coverage when you are in your house country.

Also, if you book your vehicle rental with your credit rating card, you’ll be covered for the damage collision waiver – a charge that you’ll have to pay at the rental company if you don’t book with your credit rating card.

We have a TD very first class unlimited Visa card as well as we are covered on there for this additional insurance.

Accommodation

The lodging choices in Eastern Europe are endless. If you want to stay in a hostel, a guest house, a B&B, a hotel, a resort or a shop hotel, you can.

The value for money is extremely great in this part of the world. You can expect clean spaces with friendly, well-informed staff. Also, breakfast is generally included in the cost of your room.

We’ve been taking a look at HostelsClub.com, HostelWorld.com, Booking.com as well as have likewise been searching travel blogs for lodging options. As you know, blog writers tend to share the very best areas to stay ?

The gorgeous space at the shop hostel Old Plovdiv

If you’re travelling in the cooler months, make sure your hostel has heating in the space as well as hot water showers. If travelling in the summer, make sure air-conditioning is available.

Communications

Travelling with your wise phone has ended up being the norm rather than the exception these days. being able to browse Google Maps while on your road trip, as well as being able to equate a foreign languages into your native tongue is extremely helpful – as well as there are numerous languages to stumble your method with in Eastern Europe!

Navigating utilizing Google Maps while on the road.

Wi-Fi is offered in many cafes around the region as well.

Visas

By visas, I don’t imply credit rating cards. In purchase to go into a country, you will frequently requirement to purchase a visa – which is essentially a consent stamp / sticker in your passport which enables you to cross the border into the country.

Many nationalities do not requirement visas for this part of the world. As Canadians, we only requirement a visa for Turkey (which can be bought at the flight terminal if showing up by air).

As an example, Canadians do not requirement a visa to go into into the Ukraine, however, Australians do.

Always inspect on the internet to see if you will requirement to acquire a visa in advance, at the border, or not at all.

We’ll be offering as much as date info as well as our suggestions for different countries as well as cities during this trip! We’d like to hearyour thoughts as well as suggestions in the comments below!

THE 9 best HOSTELS IN LISBON

Posted: 02/23/22 | February 23rd, 2022

Lisbon is known to have some of the best hostels in the world.

There are a lot more than 100 hostels in the city and year after year, its hostels take home some of the top spots in the top-rated “best hostels in Lisbon” lists you see floating around the web.

As someone who’s been to Lisbon multiple times, I can always see why.

Hostels in this city just get it.

They create a warm, social atmosphere, hire friendly and outgoing staff, keep the places clean, offer tons of complimentary food and booze (the crucial to any backpacker’s heart), and have incredibly comfy beds. You can nearly always find complimentary walking excursions and other activities, and/or complimentary dinners, snacks, and drinks. This can save you tons of money.

I love every hostel I’ve stayed in here.

Each time I return, I find a lot more and better places to stay.

And Lisbon hostels are cheap too!

You can find dorms with 8-10 beds at about 14 EUR per night and dorms with 4-6 beds for about 17 EUR per night. You can find private dorms that sleep 2 in a double bed starting at 60 EUR, with a lot of averaging about 70 EUR per night.

I’ve been checking out Lisbon for a decade and have stayed in dozens upon dozens of places. There are a lot of things to consider when selecting a hostel. The top four when picking the best hostel in Lisbon are:

Location – Lisbon is huge and, while the metro does go everywhere, it can take some time to get around. pick a place that is central to the sites and nightlife you want to see. All the hostels provided here are in central locations.

Price – In Lisbon, you really get what you pay for, so if you opt for a really cheap one, you’re probably going to get a hostel that is small, cramped, and doesn’t offer great service.

Amenities – Every hostel in the city uses complimentary Wi-Fi, and a lot of have a complimentary breakfast, but if you want a lot more than that, be sure to do your research to find the hostel that best meets your needs!

Staff – All the hostels provided here have incredible staff! They are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. even if you don’t end up staying at one of the places provided below, be sure to look up reviews to make sure you end up somewhere where the staff is helpful and friendly! They can make or break a hostel!

To help you plan your trip, here is my list of the hostels in Lisbon that I like the most. If you don’t want to read the longer list below, the following hostels are the best in each category:
